Mr. Moore,
Last May you gave somebody the following advice when they were discussing the problems they were having muting the iSub:

**begin**
There isn't an easy way to do this with either AMS or the Sound Prefs Panel. But, if you build the HALLab app (/Developer/Examples/CoreAudio/HAL/HALLab), in it's device info window, in the "Controls" tab, there is a check box that allows you to tell the built-in hardware (or USB device depending on your situation) not to own the iSub. This will disassociate the two and the signal should stop getting filtered.

I have an iSub. When it's plugged in, the bass of the audio goes to the iSub rather than the default output speakers. Sometimes I want to disable the iSub, but I can't seem to do that. I have to unplug it otherwise I don't get any bass in my speakers. Muting the iSub doesn't make the bass go to the speakers either.

Is there a better way of disabling the iSub other than unplugging it?

I am having the same problem, as is everybody who owns the iSub. Muting the iSub in sys prefs doesn't return the bass to the main speakers. Plugging in headphones doesn't mute the iSub or return the bass to the headphones. I have an FM transmitter that I broadcast my music with, but to get around this problem I installed a power cable to the iSub that had an ON/OFF rotating switch (like those found on lamps). This is a kludge, but works perfectly. I would like to run an applescript via crontab every night that does the same thing but from within OSX. I tried to follow your advice and compile HALLab but ran into errors†. My C programming knowledge is 10 years rusty. I realize that this might be going beyond the bounds of this mailing list, but if you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. So far, your suggestion, provided I can access it via applescript, is the best software solutions I have found short of applescripting the plug on and off with a Powerkey (http://www.sophisticated.com/products/powerkey/pkp_650.html). I'd rather not have to spend more money on the powerstrip than the subwoofer if I can help it. ;)
