setting displays

can i set the display (eg to 800 x 600, thousands of colours) via AS?
Have tried to tell System Events and System Preferences and can't find
any documentation...

I'm having to operate the Mac largyl by Voice Recognition so
mouse-intensive tasks are painful (carpal tunnel/RSI). I can call AS via
iListen but stuff I have been taking for granted for years is suddenly
difficult!

I'm sure it's an irritatingly newbie question, so thanks for any
forbearance.
