Creating printers

  • Subject: Creating printers

Good morning,

I need to find a way to create a printer so that it will appear in Printer Setup Utility. Is there a way to do this via script, either with a shell script or an AppleScript?

The obvious thing I did was look at the Printer Setup Utility dictionary, but it seems to be lacking the ability to create a new printer. I can do 'make new printer at beginning with properties...' and this returns no error but it doesn't appear in Printer Setup Utility, and there is no property to hook up the printer with an actual print driver.

So how does CUPS do it?

Steve
