How far back in Mac OS history do folder actions go?

I have to create a folder action for an iMac G3. The problem is that I
don't have direct access to the Mac, and the user is not technically
savvy enough to tell me what version the OS is. I can write a script
to check the OS and install everything necessary, but I just need to
know what the minimum OS is that I need to target the script for.
