Glenn, Im, for sure also a newbie in this field, I started with Steves suggestion
of "applescript for absolute starters" and in my experience its ok but found more
useful the training program of Tec soft for US $50.00, because you start to
scripting immediately real applications...

Of course I also read a lot of it, a short list and my comments about it
AppleScript The Missing Manual by Adam Goldstein VERY useful
Danny Goodmans AppleScript Handbook good and also cheep eBook http://

AppleScript in a Nutshell by Bruce W. Perry (OReilly)
AppleScript The Definitive Guide By Matt Neuburg
AppleSript A comprehensive Guide to Scripting & Automation by Hanaan
Rosenthal --Splendid my constant reference
Beginning AppleScript by Stephen G. Kochan
Another invaluable source of learning was, and still is, the AppleScript Pro
Sessions last May, with Ray Robertson and Shane Stanley, ( http://
www.scriptingmatters.com/aspro) I learn a lot and whit this guys and they give
you a CD with tons of information that its a must source of information about
how to script the most important applications InDesign, Illustrator, Quark,
Acrobat, Photoshop, FileMaker, between other amenities, Excellent.
I hope this help
