I just tried a simple script that asks Entourage for its name.
Repeating 500
times takes about 9 seconds from the system script menu; repeating
10000
times from the app's script menu takes about 2 seconds. That's a very
artificial test, but it shows there's a big potential gap.
Hello
Of course, the test with the application's script menu was done under
Panther.
If the one with the system's script menu was also under Panther, one
may hope that it run faster under Tiger due to enhancements described

On the other hand, I assume that the removing of the shortcut
convention may be due to potential conflicts with the scripts's
shortcuts and the applications's ones in a system menu. In an
application menu, we have to take care of the app's own shortcuts.
In a system one, we have to deall with every apps shortcut which may
become a nightmare.
