And it's a normal behavior, the 'giving up after' parameter exists to not freeze a script when an error (or a possibility, a choice...) occurs while the user is not in front of his/her computer.
As long as your Mac can't see you he will use the mouse and the keyboard to determine that you are or not in front of him.
