OT: help with weird setting

I came home to find that my 18-month-old son had, besides giving all
the icons on my Desktop interesting names, somehow enabled some
feature that I don't know how to turn off. Whenever I click on an
icon in the Finder, it sprouts a black box around it, that stays with
it after the selection moves away, but disappears when the Finder's
not the active application. I assumed it was some sort of help for
the visually impaired, but didn't see anything to turn it off in
Finder Preferences or the Universal Access or Appearance system
preferences panels . . . any suggestions where else to look?
