Apologies to Martin for him getting this twice.

Image Events is how AppleScripters access SIPS.

Apple had plans to expand the functionality of SIPS so that you could use it
to do things like blurring and sharpening etc. But this hasn't happened and
we now have even more (rather than fewer) confusing methods to do this
(Tiger and Developer Tools required for these links):

<file:///Developer/Applications/Graphics Tools/ Core Image Fun House.
app>

<file:///Developer/Applications/Graphics Tools/Quartz Composer.app>

Both great fun but you need to get your obj-c books out if you want to
script Core Image :-(

iMagine Photo is a lot like Image Events but with a lot more functionality, and it can do both blurring and sharpening. It is also free. By default it runs as a normal application that appears in the dock but it has an applescript command so that you can configure to run as a background only application so that like Image Events it is hidden from the user. It has no user interface functionality.
