As the others have mentioned, shutting down the machine might produce dialogs that needs attention... so keep an eye on this.
Another solution would be: SLEEP
Since this power-machine is able to run 18 out of 24 hours, I assume you don't shut it down due to power issues (like running on battery or solar power inside a sattelite .. ?), so sleep might be a better solution - if you Really need to turn it off...
Remember that a system is absolutely lasting longer, if it's kept at the same temp (ie. booting & shutting down daily is harder that keeping it running) at least for the component on the motherboard...
