Bear in mind that AppleScript is regarded as a developer tool, not a

It may be painful to relinquish any remnant delusions we've harboured
but this has been obvious from day one. It wasn't HyperCard, no matter
what we were told. I don't think that ASS is HyperCard either.
Back in 1992 when I went to purchase HyperCard the assistant said "Why
don't you buy C instead? It's doesn't take any longer to learn and
it'll be much more useful." Why didn't I listen to him?
Because, like most Mac users, you're smarter and better looking than
those who choose C on purpose.
I don't see an issue here. "Developer" is a very broad term. It doesn't
imply type declarations or buffer overruns, native compilation or
punctuation-heavy syntax. The only important distinction is that
AppleScripting requires certain kinds of knowledge and is intended for
a class of users that overlaps with but is not the same as those who
use Safari, Word, or Illustrator.
AppleScript involves "functions", "values", "statements" and
"variables". That's about all that's core to programming. The rest is
just the details of one language or another.
There's no real point in saying that AppleScript writers aren't
programmers, or that they're "just" users; they are both, among many
other things.
