I should add to my list because the Finder hides them otherwise?
Finder can't readily search any of the invisible folders like etc, var,
usr and so on but they can be navigated to using "Go to Folder..." from
the "Go" menu - if you know where they are. Once you have such folders
open in the Finder, the icon next to the folder's name can be dragged
in to the "Specific places" pane of the Find window.
As to whether they should be searched or not, that depends on your
needs really. These folders are hidden from the casual observer
because interfering with them can easily render your system unusable.
On the other hand it can be useful to be able to view certain log files
that Console.app doesn't provide access to, for example.
