It might make it easier, but you've still got the problem caused by
the US convention of printing dates in the format: MM/DD/YY[YY].  If
you sort that numerically, it sorts by month, then day, then year.
You probably want it sorted by year, then month, then day.  Anyway,
just something to think about.

Also, I've only played with it a little bit, but AppleScript Studio
has this concept of a 'data source' which implements sorting.
Transcribing your entire project to AppleScript Studio might be more
of a learning curve hit than you're willing to take right now, though.
 If not, I'd encourage you to look into it.
