Thanks to Kai and Honza for pointing me to the background information on this bug.

It showed up for me when I tried to take an AS Studio app that I'm developing at home, where I don't bother with FileVault, with me on a trip on my iBook, which I do protect with FileVault, and it stopped working. Before I read these useful comments, I resorted to the brute force workaround of creating a new, non-FileVault-protected user on my iBook, and copying all the files I needed to it. Now I think I'll probably switch to the "create a disk image with the same name" hack.
