Can you explain your need to actually open the mbox in the Finder?

Originally, it was to get at the raw text of messages in mail, to have more precise control over editing them. The text is in a file 'mbox' inside the .mbox package.

Since then, I've discovered the 'source' command in Mail's AppleScript dictionary, which gives me the raw text of the message with a lot less effort and admittedly has made the original reason for my question academic.

Fine. :-)
I mean, because I tried various ways, through genuine AS scripting as well as through UI scripting without success...

But I've remained curious about a way to script this action, regardless.

Well... me too.

I apologize if anyone feels that I've wasted their time.

No need to apologize; it just went about a damn good general-wide question. ;-)
