Final Cut Pro is best described as "Anti-Automation Unless By Automation You
Mean XML and Only XML".

If you want a scriptable NLE on the Mac, Media 100 is a great choice,
(unless they broke it). At last check, it was scriptable, attachable,
aaaaaaaaand:

Recordable.


You can also script After Effects pro, (JavaScript only), and it has startup
and shutdown actions.
