"Background color"? That's not a background color, that's your own standard
color denoting "selected text". It's selected to make it easy for people to
replace with their own typing (or pasting). No there's no way for it not to
be selected - except by providing no 'default answer'. as for the actual
color, you can change yours in System Preferences/Highlight Color, but that
won't affect what other people see. The default highlight color for selected
text that most people will have is light blue, which is pretty unobtrusive.
