edit images in PDF files

The Acrobat dictionary leaves much to be desired. I am still at version 6, but don't have much hope for an expansion in version 7. (Tell me I'm wrong, please!)

What I want to do is something like this:

open PDF (in Acrobat or other program)
get a list of embedded bitmap images
repeat with x in images
open x in phothoshop (as with "edit image" using touchUp Object tool)
do stuff with image in photoshop, close save yes (ie save image back into PDF)
..
close pdf, save yes.

how do I: 1) get a list of references to the images in acrobat 2) execute a "edit image" command in acrobat

is this possible through applescript? or is there a clever javascript routine that may help me? or could I use other software or a plug-in?

Happy for any advice

Håvard
