Setting 'group' for person in Address Book....

I'm confused about the syntax for associating a 'person' in the OSX
Address Book with a group.
I think that:
set name of group of person 1 to "Family"
... changes the name of the group.
set group of person 1 to "Family"
... gets an error.
I'm sure someone knows how to do this. I think the complexity is
because "group" is not a property of the class Person, but an
element, which theoretically might mean that a person might be
associated with multiple groups.
Any help appreciated.
