Actually, since it's part of Standard Additions, not the AppleScript language, it is an osax, by definition (with the overhead of being scanned and called, which could be a consideration of you were calling it say 5000 times in a repeat loop). But it's built in, not 3rd party. Perhaps that's what you meant to say?
