Yes, and this would be fairly easy to write.

Wrong. Its my understanding (from my mate who has written iTunesleep in ASS - http://electronicholas.com/software/itunesleep.php) that you can use pmset to schedule wake/boot up times from the command line.
I'll clarify with him exactly what the commands, etc are, but opening terminal and typing "man pmset" will bring up the manual page for it. From what I remember him saying its run with the -a flag to set a wake-up time.
(iTunesleep will soon be available for all of us without salling clicker as a GUI, which will be good :))
