No argument there. But the OP asked, "How do I get the source code of a website in html from my Safari browser
onto TextEdit," so it may be jumping to conclusions to assume that the text displayed on the rendered page is "the information that's desired."


Full disclosure: my TextEdit prefs are configured to open documents as plain text, which I should've noted in my previous message, since the default RichText format opens html documents as web pages. I erroneously thought that downoloading to a file with the .txt extension would force the source to be displayed, whereas .html would be displayed as interepreted source, but not so: upon further experimentation, the name extension appears irrelevant. The "Ignore rich text commands in HTML files" checkbox is the determining factor.
