Thanks to Kai and Paul Berkowitz for the erudite explanation of the "Microsoft Word" active window issue.

I now have a really simply solution to my problem (and it even works this time!).

And all by myself I figured out that in Acrobat it is "active doc" (not "active document". Boy, I can take the training wheels off pretty soon!
