You've not had to deal with them in the enterprise much if you think a sucky
API from MS will slow down their ability to club you with it. They really
don't care about bad PR, they have money coming in. (I don't think that's a
terribly smart idea long term, but look at the stupidity coming out of
Ballmer's mouth on a regular basis).
The problem occurs when the make it seem cross platform enough to get people
developing to it, then the non-windows bits just kind of go away, and now
you have a windows only codebase. Oops. (It's happened before and I think
you'd have to be daft to think MS won't play a successful trick again.) It's
one reason why I'm glad the cross platform Cocoa silliness died stillborn.
The chances of it being adequately supported over time were about zero. But
enough people will buy into it to create problems. (Ask me how many corner
office denizens have turned Office 12 into "Microsoft is all Open Now).
