I'm trying to use Remote Apple Events to talk to our server that
runs Phlink. But when I try this AS:

tell application "Ovolab Phlink" of machine "eppc://
user:email@hidden"
   get version
end tell

I get "Syntax Error - Unable to authenticate user."

I'm running 10.4.3 on both machines, Remote Apple Events is
activated on the server, and the firewall is off on both machines.
Connection is via AirPort Extreme, and the username and password are
for the admin account that is logged in at the time.

The scuttlebut is that eppc is broken, and seemingly continues to be. At least you get an error back, which points to the actual problem with passwords getting screwed up, locked down, lost or corrupted in some way.

I try to talk to an OS 9 machine. Successful only after a restart of the target mac. Works once then breaks.

There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.
