Was the local drive sleep, non-active for awhile? I can see drives that
are sleep needed to be ask twice to get correct info or network drives
that have not been access in awhile. I used access my Mac OS X drive
via NFS from my IRIX box and I will have strange things happen due to
Mac drives going to sleep.
