Inline graphics in InDesign

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to import inline graphics into InDesign?

I'm importing tagged text files, and I don't believe there's an InDesign tag to include inline graphics in tagged text. So instead, I'm planning to do a search-and-replace using AppleScript so that some placeholder text is replaced by an inline graphic.
