Well, that's what it's all about, anyway.

If you have not yet experimented with Satimage's XMLLib.osax, you might find
(like I did) that it is extremely easy to set and get values from your own
plist, either inside or external to your bundle -- usually two or three
lines of code minimally.

Additionally, and related to your current difficulties, you have the option
of how you want to commit values.  They can be raw data or string/Unicode.
Lists, aliases and other assorted class types can all be written and read
without incident (as lists, aliases, etc. or as coerced versions of.)

Given your skills and formidable big brain, you've probably ruled that out
already, but in case not...
