I have an Applescript that I have been using for years. It runs
every day at 6:55 AM and it reads a Tex-Edit Plus file with entries
for date, days of advance notice and comment (appointment, etc).
This give me a dialog box of the days (up to 5 days in advance)
appointments.
I am thinking of moving this to iCal (with an alarm). It all looks
straight forward, except that I don't see any simple way to notify
me X days in advance.
Any thoughts?
Not clear how much of your data and workflow you're moving to iCal
and/or to scripting, but as you enter the Forest of Confusion that is
iCal scripting, you might also want to check out some of the iCal
utilities that are available. For example, iCalViewer can display
your calendars on your desktop. And MenuCalendarClock is iCal in the
menu bar (and both run without iCal being open, I think).
