Yes...the developers chose not to, as you can use hdutil, disktool, mount,
and a few other utilities with AppleScript to give you Disk Utility's
functionality.

Run to the man pages for hdutil, disktool, and mount. Read the information
therein, and the solution shall present itself with no small haste.
