strange location indexes

I'm running scselect in a do shell script (with appropriate redirection of the error and piping the output), and instead of the index numbers I expect for the locations, I get a 0 for the first one I defined, but then I get these exceedingly long ones for the other locations instead of the 1, 2, 3 I'd expect.

Anyone know what might be causing this? OS X 10.4.2
