It seems to me that I first noticed something like this back in Mac OS X
10.3. My assumption then (or whenever) was that Image Capture Scripting (or
was there another name for it then?) was the engine behind the Image Capture
(or was it Grab?) application in your /Applications folder. Why it's in an
unusable scripting addition instead of in the application itself is beyond
me. I don't see any scripting information in the Image Capture application
package or the Image Capture Scripting bundle. But I note that the
NSAppleScriptEnabled key is turned on in the latter.
There are a couple of Automator actions for Image Capture, although that
doesn't really shed any light on this.
It sure seems plausible that the functionality is all in the Image Events
application in CoreServices now, and that the Image Capture application
somehow uses Image Events to get its work done. Maybe Image Capture
Scripting is still in the ScriptingAdditions folder as a dummy file for
older scripts or applications that test for its presence as a proxy for the
availability of these features?
