I don't know that it's a "bug" - I suspect that if it's left running with a timeout of 3-5 hours, it will actually return *the* record from hell with the results, RAM and other resources permitting. But it certainly doesn't behave like most scripters seem to think it should.
Presuming that "make it return 900,000 files instantly" is not a reasonable option, what *should* it do? I'd bet that people who write the code are open to improvements if they're both backwards-compatible and don't break the AppleScript rules (i.e., displaying a confirmation dialog box that would break some scripts).
