File Order Processing Question

I am placing image files in Quark 6 from a folder.
I don’t understand how AppleScript processes files in a folder.
I want it to process them in alphabetical order but it uses some other criteria.
What is it doing and how do I get it to process alphabetically?
Do I have to create a list in RAM of file names, then sort them, and then call them into my script process? There must be an easier way
