Ah yes. I hadn't appreciated that. You could be right. I was short-
circuiting to the idea that "Can't make 1.2 into type number" was
indicative of a reference problem -- especially since no coercion was
actually expected. If it had said "Can't make 1.2 into type integer," I
might have short-circuited differently. ;-)
