I didn't examine your code close enough; you made the same mistake as
in a previous line by misusing booleans. try this:
if (today is Saturday) or (today is Sunday) or (exists (event in
calendar "Work" whose start date ≤ date now and whose end date ≥ date
now) or (event in calendar "U.S. Federal Holidays" whose start date ≤
date now and whose end date ≥ date now)) then
Essentially, you can't say
if a is b or c
if a is b and c
Because that parses to
if (a is b) or c
if (a is b) and c
You have to say
if a is b or a is
if a is b and a is c
