Okay, but why is this needed since the name doesn't conflict?

Oh, I see: I had seen "movie 1" before in other QT scripts but hadn't realized why they didn't refer to the file proper.

So, the AIFF string is some special data type or what? How do I store this to a variable?

Hmm: I had to revert to QT 7.0.1, because the 7.0.4 release prevented my Disk Warrior from running properly (and a lot of other applications too -- wasn't this the first time Apple recommended downgrading?) -- and the problems don't seem to have been corrected since then...
