Chris,
I'm not sure if you're aware that following links at http://www.apple.com/
to Software tab ( http://www.apple.com/software/ ) then AppleScript, or
MacOS X tab ( http://www.apple.com/macosx/ ). then Developer Tools, then
AppleScript, both end up at
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/applescript/
From there, the Resources link (
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/applescript/resources.html )
has an "AppleScript Release Notes" link (
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/release_notes/ ) that is DEAD.
It has been dead for a very long time now. It is time it was either removed
or fixed with a good link.
Starting over at apple.com, the Developer tab leads to
http://developer.apple.com/ , which has a Release Notes link (
http://developer.apple.com/releasenotes/ ) , which has an AppleScript link
( http://developer.apple.com/releasenotes/AppleScript/index.html ) , that
has a lot of links (Getting Started, Fundamentals, API Reference), none of
which lead to real Release Notes. The "Release Notes" link (Under Next
Steps) at Getting Started just brings you back in a circle to where you just
left . "Documentation" link does exactly the same!! So does "Technical
Notes"!!! So does "Sample Code"!!!! So does "Technical Q & A"!!!!! So does
the "AppleScript Reference Library" !!!!!! (...beginning to get annoyed
here...)
From "Fundamentals" on that ubiquitous page, we get only to AppleScript
Overview and the AppleScript Studio Programming Guide pdfs. Fair enough -
but no longer even the old ASLG for 1.3.7?
From "API Reference" we get to the same place. Hmmmm.
There's also a "Tools" link under "AppleScript Topics". That one (
http://developer.apple.com/releasenotes/AppleScript/idxTools-date.html ) has
an "AppleScript Release Notes" document. Wow! But that gets us just to the
Release Notes for 1.10 ONLY. (
http://developer.apple.com/releasenotes/AppleScript/AppleScript.html )
So the entire "Release Notes" at Developer was a dead end.
OK. Back at Developer tab ( http://developer.apple.com/ ), the "AppleScript"
TOPIC link gets us to http://developer.apple.com/applescript/ . From there,
the "Release Notes" link gets us to the same old roundabout above - NOWHERE.
Try yet again. Back once more at the Developer page (
http://developer.apple.com/ ), off on the right, there's a "Related Topics"
frame - yet another one. This time, the "AppleScript" link leads to
http://www.apple.com/applescript/developers/ . Why is there NO OTHER LINK to
this page? This one has two links, as well as a lot of tabs. One of the
links is "AppleScript Developer Documentation" just gets us to the
roundabout page again. But the other link "AppleScript Release Notes"
FINALLY get us to the page ( http://www.apple.com/applescript/release_notes/
) that lists all the Release Notes from 1.7.0 up to 1.10.1.
Why is it so hard to find? Why are there no links to this page from all the
other pages that promised "Release Notes"? THIS is the only location that
works. Otherwise, you'd have to know to OMIT "developer" from the URL, and
to use an underscore in release_notes. Jeez.
I'm aware this has nothing to do with you, Chris, But couldn't someone do
something about this?
Whatever the new scheme is, they need to get all the "AppleScript" links
from Software. Mac OS X, and Developer to arrive at some page where a _real_
Release Notes link is in place.
