Why does this script work when I run it from script editor, and when I save it as an application doesn't?

Apparently without the text editor to do some of the work, it can't coerce the number into a string.  This works:

if (count of characters of (_day as text)) as text < 2 then

you will also need to change this:

if (count of characters of (_month as text)) as text < 2 then

Do not go out and kill Klansmen, no matter how much they deserve it. It would be funny as hell to see on the evening news how a bunch of guys wearing bright pink robes and hoods started burning triangles in their yards for a change.
