Well, I had simmilar problems.
I never figured out what the reason was.
On OS 9 I got the out of memory message with some scripts latger than
5000 lines of code.
After moving the scripts to OS X the same message appeared at about
6000 lines.
Usually those scripts run successfully in the Script Debugger but
failed when saved as an application.
Now I divide my larger scripts in several libraries and load those
libraries from the main script.
This works for me, but I really would like to know where the barriers
are!

Hi,
I've got a script (developed with help from this list) that exports
tagged items from an inDesign document to an XML file. It then
filters characters in the xml file and tidies up a few odds and
ends and saves the xml for import into a main frame.
The script has been running just fine for weeks, but has developed
a problem. On the user's mac it's generating an "out of memory" error.
It runs fine on my mac and other macs in my office, but generates
this error on the user's mac and another mac in her office.
It generates the error only if run as a droplet. If I install the
script in the inDesign script palette and run it from there, it works.
The error seems to occur outside of any application tell block.
(The error is trapped in a try block and "out of memory" is the
error's text value).
Now I know this is sketchy information and there's a lot more I
need to do to narrow it down (installing Script Debugger on the
user's mac would be a good place to start) but it's the "out of
memory" error that's got me puzzled. I haven't seen this error in
Mac OS 10, and thought they were a thing of the past.
Has anyone else encountered an "out of memory" error?
