Best way to monitor iTunes track changes?

Hi,

Is there a clean and efficient way to detect track changes in iTunes from AppleScript? I just want to know when the track changes so that I can get the track info etc (which is the easy part).

I've had a look at the iTunes API stuff and not found anything the jumps out at me as a means of getting track change notifications - aside from pretending to be a visual plugin maybe- and the iTunes plugin API seems to require native code anyway. I'd like to stay in AppleScript land if I can, this is just a toy project.

Ideally I'd imagine I could tell iTunes I am interested in events and have it tell me when the track changes, but I am not sure this is possible.

The other approach I can see is the ugly one of keeping the applescript running at all times in a loop, polling iTunes every 60 seconds or so to see if the track has changed. Not the nicest approach :(

Thanks in advance.
