And they were. Class "string" actually includes two different types of text:
MacRoman encoded "raw" text, and a form of text that also includes
information on the encoding used. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to tell
them apart.
The good news is that it's mainly only old versions of apps that can't
handle both. Oh, and Quark 6.5, of course. Just another hoop to jump through
when scripting such apps.
