Find the intersection of two groups in Address Book.

So, I've got two overlapping groups that are used by Mail.app's "sender member of group" qualifier and i'd like to ensure that this groups don't overlap with each other. Each overlapping contact is it's own id and not
a reference to the same contact.
how is it possible to _efficiently_ search Groups using applescript? I know the Cocoa Address Book api's allow for complex qualifiers which will do the job but I'd like to be able to do this from applescripts that I call from Mail.app via the Script menu.
Additionally I already add new contacts to each of these groups using an applescript for each and I'd like to make sure that when I say add a contact to one group that it's automatically removed (if necessary) from the other and vica-versa.
It's my understanding that applscript doesn't provide for an efficient way to query for contacts matching some criteria.
