how to force 'Disconnect' the phone modem internet connection

Is there an Applescript that force disconnects a modem phone connection on the MacBook with OS X 10.4. Somethimes, when trying to "Disconnect" the phone modem internet connection, it just seems to loop forever, and only a system restart solves the problem.

I tried EndHangingDisconnect version 1.4 AppleScript application, but it does not solve the problem.

Thanks.
