A few days ago, I was experimenting with using ...
do shell script "drutil -drive " & driveNr & " burn -xxx " & imagePath"
where -xxx is some of the various file system options available with
the burn command. My conclusion from these experiments is that
drutil's burn command simply ignores these file system options.
I tried most of yesterday to find documentation on drutil and file
systems, but found nothing that explained the behavior of drutil's
burn command. I was lucky first thing this morning, however, when I
found this short document ...
Mac OS X: Format of DVD-R discs burned in the Finder
Learn about the file format of DVD-R discs burned in the Finder.
With Mac OS X 10.2.8 or earlier, DVD-R discs burned in the Finder are
Mac OS Extended format (HFS Plus). With Mac OS X 10.3 or later, they
are
a HFS Plus/ISO 9660 hybrid format, which can be read by most computer
systems, including Microsoft Windows. The disc contains these
filesystems:
HFS+, ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge.
This does not apply to DVD-R discs burned in iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.
It seems that when an optical disk is burned using drutil or Disk
Utility, it is always burned as a hybrid or universal file system -
no questions asked and no answers accepted.
I wonder if anyone knows more about this.
I also found the Finder's 'format' command. It only reports the file
system used to mount a disk and is more or less useless. It would be
very useful if it returned a list of installed file systems.
