Thank you all for clarifying that an application has to be implemented with the ability to show a specific script menu on the left side of the menu bar.
I was somewhat seduced and misled by the term "trick" believing that just putting the scripts on the proper place -
~/Library/Scripts/Applications/App Name/ - would do the job. And my wish was not speed but convenience.
Since the applications "Mail" and "iTunes" follow slightly different ways as was pointed out already, and many others fail, the only question remains:
Which apps have this feature -
~/Library/Scripts/Applications/App Name/ - implemented and how to recognize it except by trial and error?

And then there's the lesser known trick of showing application scripts only when a particular app is in the front by putting its scripts into
~/Library/Scripts/Applications/App Name/
i.e. making an "Applications" folder in the user Scripts folder, and subfolders within it named for apps. This also works in 10.3.
