Just to be thorough, I tried your latest on my "pristine" system - Perfect: Mail & Safari.

I'm afraid that System Events' Property List Suite was introduced in
Tiger, Serge. For earlier system versions, you might try Gnarlie's
shell approach. However, from 10.4 onwards, I'd go with Matt D's
advice on the subject.

Thanks to Matt, Adam, Todd, John and Gnarlie, as well as to those who
contacted me off-list, for their help in getting this to work in Tiger.
