And to second Dave Balderstone's text backup notion, the saved scripts are easy to search with SpotLight, BBEdit, File Buddy, etc.

I began saving text only backup versions of scripts some time back.
It not only addresses this situation, but it's a LOT faster to snag a
bit of code for posting or emailing if you don't have to wait for
apps to open...
