Manipulating accounts, passwords, and password hints using applescript

Hello everyone,
I'm working on a script to manipulate local account passwords in Tiger and I have a few questions.  I know I can use the do shell script +  'dscl' command to create or change an account password but I'm curious if there is a scriptable application I can use so I do not have to call a shell script.  No particular reason for this, I'm just curious.  Also, my apple script needs to remove the password hint from an existing account.  Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks
