Having read this book (and several others) I would have to say that this is the most honest of them. Neuburg points out the sins and flaws of the AppleScript "way" as he goes along. I don't think it's necessarily the best book to begin with, but I did enjoy it immensely, and as it happens, it was the book I began with.

Dunno about simple, but I've written a book whose purpose is to teach you
the syntax of the language, as well as how to read a dictionary with
comprehension. It teaches you nothing about Mail specifically, though. m.
